Oman's National Steel Company said work has started on its new $500-million iron manufacturing plant within Salalah Free Zone (SFZ), said a report.

On completion, it will boast a production capacity of 85,000 tonnes annually of various iron products, reported Muscat Daily, citing a senior SFZ official.

"Investments worth $500 million have been earmarked for the 250,000-sq-m manufacturing facility," stated Ali Tabouk, the chief executive officer.

"A majority of the produce from the facility, around 65 per cent, would be exported to regional markets," he added.
